6 Essential Steps to Budget Your Dream Vacation

Written By: David Dixon, EdS ~ 6/26/2023

Ensure that you enjoy your trip without worrying about financial constraints by taking an all-important first step:

Budgeting

Here’s how to create your dream vacation budget:

  1. BLOGPOST_DreamVacation06262023.jpgDetermine your total costs:
    1. Figure out how much money you can afford to spend. This helps determine how much to allocate for:
      • transportation
      • accommodations
      • food
      • activities
      • other expenses (such as souvenirs, tips, and taxes)

  2. Decide on your destination:
    1. Once you have a budget in mind, choose a destination that fits within your financial constraints.
    2. When choosing a location, consider and adjust the costs of transportation, lodging, and activities.

  3. Create a detailed itinerary:
    1. Plan out your activities and excursions ahead of time.
    2. Research the cost of each activity and include it in your budget:
      • transportation
      • meals
      • admission fees or equipment rentals.

  4. Consider other expenses:
    1. Don't forget to include incidental expenses such as souvenirs, tips, and taxes. These costs can add up quickly.

  5. Look for ways to save money:
    1. Consider:
      • using travel rewards programs
      • booking flights and accommodations in advance
      • opting for less expensive dining options
    2. Be creative and look for deals/discounts to stretch your money further.

  6. Stick to your budget:
    1. Once you have a budget in place, be sure to stick to it. This may mean skipping some activities or opting for a less expensive meal.
    2. It will help you:
      • avoid overspending
      • ensure that you enjoy yourself, during and after your vacation, without worrying about finances.
