When you’re invited to a restaurant interview, it's a sign that you're a serious candidate. The reasons to be interviewed over a meal are multi-purposed for employers:

  1. BLOGPOST_AcingTheInterview08262024.jpgAssessing Social Skills: It gives them a better gauge of your social, conversational, and interpersonal abilities.

  2. Cultural Fit: They can observe how well you blend into their culture and represent the company with clients.

  3. Stress Test: It’s a first-hand experience of how you handle pressure in a more relaxed setting.

Here are key points to ace your restaurant interview:

  1. Research Ahead:
    • Know the restaurant location, parking options, and menu.
    • Arrive 10 minutes early and be well-prepared.
    • Brush up on current events and the organization's recent media releases.

  2. Etiquette Matters:
    • Tap into your dining etiquette training.
    • Be attentive and follow your host's lead:
      • Let the host choose the table and be seated first.
      • Be mindful of menu prices; don't outdo the interviewer.
      • Opt for easy and simple meal selections.
      • Remember, the host pays; offering to pay is inappropriate.
      • Alcohol: Only if the host offers; maintain your professionalism.

  3. Focus Beyond Food:
    • It's not about the cuisine or prestige.
    • Display poise, respect, and politeness.
    • Keep the conversation responsive and respectful.
    • Avoid discussing work benefits unless the employer initiates it.
    • If this role aligns with both you and the employer, it will feel seamless.

  4. After the Interview:
    • Send a Thank You email within 24 hours.
    • Keep it personable, concise, and professional.
    • Highlight significant points from your conversation.
    • Express appreciation for their time and insights.
    • Reiterate your interest in the role and the company.

Remember, acing the interview isn't about the food—it's about showcasing your best self and making a lasting impression.
